You hired both these people 3 months ago. They do the same job. You used the same hiring techniques for both.
Florence (below) is a real go getter. She caught on quickly and does her work accurately and enthusiastically, asking for more if she finishes early.
Bob, here, is still being trained, probably another 2-3 months, and doesn’t really care if his work gets done by the end of the day or not. There is always tomorrow….your other employees are starting to grumble.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Chances are if you have just done an interview with a resume, you will hire someone like Florence 1 out of 7 times. You’ll hire someone like Bob, here, 1 out of 7 times. The rest will be mediocre hires. Those are the stats straight from SHRM.
