John Vack, MA
John Vack has been actively involved in non-profit fundraising and management for over 30 years. During his tenure he has served the American Cancer Society, Camelback Mental Health Foundation, the Phoenix Zoo and the VistaCare Hospice Foundation to name a few. In his career John has hired and coached more than a hundred employees. Often times these hires were made in conjunction with a board search committee. Some of those employees were great hires and achieved great success in their jobs or went on to high-level positions in the corporate or non-profit world.
About five years ago, John discovered a more strategic and objective system to find and evaluate new candidates and used the process for his last several hires. The answer to why some employees succeed while others fail became apparent -- using objective decision tools to help eliminate politics and subjectivity in the selection process.
Some of the time the personality, interests and abilities of the new employee did not fit the position, organization culture or new boss. Although the candidate looked good based on experience, the interview and references, he/she simply did not fit this particular job. An expensive mistake was made and a valuable lesson learned.
John has now joined Hiring Solutions to bring this more objective system along with his wealth of experience to the non-profit sector and other small businesses looking to greatly improve their hiring practices.
